Witricity Ev Wireless Charging: Watch: What wireless charging an EV looks like, technology explained – Times of India
This Tesla Charges Wirelessly!
As we just saw, the EV parked in front of a generic looking charging point, the only difference was the presence of a square pad placed on the ground. The wireless charging technology developed by WiTricity, uses magnetic resonance to facilitate the transfer of power between a charging point and an EV. It includes two resonator devices, a source resonator (charging pad placed on the groundt) and a device resonator (built into the EV), the system works on the principal of resonant coupling. Resonant coupling occurs when the natural frequencies of the two systems, a source and a receiver, are approximately the same. The system’s specially designed magnetic resonators are able to transfer power to an EV based on this principal.

The company claims that unlike typical smartphone wireless charging which takes longer and is not as efficient, their wireless charging system for EVs is just as fast ans efficient as a cable charging setup. Wireless charging an EV also introduces several other benefits such as easier maintenance, as there are no physical moving parts. All weather usage, lower utility cost, increased safety and space conservation are also among benefits of the system. The company is currently working on onboarding EV OEMs to integrate the technology in upcoming EV models.
