NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday exuded confidence that he will return to power in 2024 and said that he will give an account of India’s achievements on August 15, 2024 from Red Fort.

“People elected me to power in 2014 on my promises and blessed me in 2019 due to performance. The next five years are of unprecedented development and a golden moment to realise the dream of India as a developed nation by 2047.

I will give an account of country’s achievements on next August 15 from Red Fort,”he said in his last Independence Day speech ahead of 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
PM Modi said he had made a promise to the nation to usher in change in 2014. “You reposed your trust in me. I tried to fulfil the trust you reposed in me. I had promised you to change through reform, perform and transform. I have worked hard for the nation and I have worked with pride,” he said.

Actions, sacrifices of Amrit Kaal will impact coming millennium
Addressing the nation on the 77th Independence Day, he said India is out of the ‘slave mentality’ and marching ahead with new confidence and resolve.
“We are fortunate to live in the ‘Amrit Kaal’ of independence. The decisions we make in this ‘Amrit Kaal’, our actions and sacrifices, would pave the way for a glorious history spanning the next millennium,” PM Modi said.

The Prime Minister urged the citizens not to lose the opportunity to realise the country’s potential as the decisions and sacrifices made in this period will impact the country for the next 1,000 years.
This year’s Independence Day will culminate the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ celebrations, which were launched by the Prime Minister from Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad, Gujarat on March 12, 2021, and will usher the country into the ‘Amrit Kaal’ (golden era).
India’s fight against corruption, nepotism & appeasement
Calling for a collective fight against corruption, nepotism and appeasement, the Prime Minister said that these are the three evils that have harmed the country immensely.
“My government weeded out 10 crore fake beneficiaries of welfare schemes, seizure of ill-gotten assets rose by 20 times. It is Modi’s life-long commitment to keep fighting against corruption … ,” he said.

PM Modi also said that the politics of appeasement has inflicted the most harm on social justice. “Dynastic parties work with the mantra of ‘party of the family, by the family and for the family,” he said.
“How can political parties in a democracy run on dynasty politics? For such parties it is of the family, for the family and by the family. We need to fight such dynasty politics. Similarly appeasement too needs to be combatted as it has ruined the fabric of social justice,” he added.
India emerged as ‘vishwa mitra’
Recalling the era of Covid-19, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that India helped many nations during the time of crisis and emerged as a ‘vishwa mitra’ (friend of the world).
“We have to make our country so strong that will contribute to vishwa mangal (global welfare). After Covid, the way India helped the world during the time of crisis, India has emerged as vishwa mitra,” PM Modi said.
The Prime Minister said that after the pandemic, the world order and the definition of the geopolitical equation have changed and India has become the voice of the global south.
Path for solution in Manipur will be found through peace
Touching upon the sensitive Manipur situation during his nearly-90 minute speech, PM Modi said that people across the country stand with the people of the northeastern state.
“Peace is the only way to resolve all disputes. The Centre and the Manipur government are making every effort to ensure that peace returns to the state at the earliest,” PM Modi said.

The Prime Minister said the situation in Manipur, which witnessed violence in the past few weeks, was improving and urged the people in the northeastern state to build on the peace restored there.
“In the past few weeks, during the period of violence in the North East, especially in Manipur, many people lost their lives, and the honor of mothers and daughters suffered a lot, but in the last few days, there are reports of peace. The nation is with Manipur,” he added.
Modi govt works to meet goals
On the new Parliament building, PM Modi said earlier, there used to be discussions around it but it was his government that got the work done.
“For 25 years, the new Parliament building was only in the realm of discussions across the country. Ye Modi hai, samay ke pehle Sansad banakar ke rakh diya (But this is Modi, we delivered the new Parliament building ahead of schedule). This is a government that works to meet goals that it sets for itself,” PM Modi added.
On May 28, PM Modi inaugurated the new Parliament building equipped with state-of-the-art technology.
2 crore lakhpati didis in villages
PM Modi lauded women’s self-help groups (SHG) and their contribution and said the G20 grouping has acknowledged India’s approach of women-led development. He said that women’s self-help groups have 10 crore members.
“When you go to a village, you will find ‘bank-wali didi, Anganwadi didi and dawai-wali (medicine) didi. It is my dream to make 2 crore lakhpati didis in villages,” he said.

The Prime Minister said the government is planning a new policy for the agri-tech sector to strengthen women’s self-help groups. “We will train them in operating and repairing drones. Many self-help groups will be provided with drones. These agricultural drones can be utilised effectively,” he added.
PM Modi began his Independence Day speech by addressing people of India as his ‘parivaarjan’ (family members).
In his earlier speeches, the Prime Minister had referred to the people of the country as “my beloved brothers and sisters”.
Developed India by 2047
PM Modi said it should be our resolve that when the tricolour is hoisted in 2047 it is of developed India.
“I firmly believe that when the country will celebrate 100 years of freedom in 2047, the country would be a developed India. I say this on the basis of the capability of my country and available resources,” he said.

The Prime Minister said experts across the globe are saying that India was now unstoppable. “Now, neither in our minds nor that of the world are any ifs and buts, a trust has been developed. Now, the ball is in our court. We should not let go of this opportunity,” he said.
“A new geopolitical equation is fast taking shape after Covid-19. I can see the strength of 140 crore Indians in shaping the changing world. You are at a decisive turning point. Today we have demography, democracy, diversity, and this ‘triveni’ (three factors) has the potential to make every dream of India come true,” PM Modi added.?
Meanwhile, continuing with a tradition from 2014 when he assumed the country’s highest office, PM Modi donned a multicoloured Rajasthani bandhej turban paired with an off-white kurta and churidar for the Independence Day celebrations.
