WI vs IND: Shubman Gill hasn’t scored big for quite a long time, says RP Singh ahead of 4th T20I

Former India fast-bowler RP Singh has said that India might be concerned about opener Shubman Gill as he has not managed to score big in a long time. India is all set to take on the West Indies in the fourth T20I of the five-match series in Lauderdale, Florida.

Speaking to Jio Cinema, Singh said Gill has not scored big for a long time, adding that he has struggled against left-arm spinners. Gill has scored just 16 runs in the opening three matches of India’s T20I series against the West Indies.

“I think the Indian team might be concerned about Shubman Gill already because he hasn’t managed to score big for quite a long time. He has not done well against the left-arm spinners on a few occasions, too,” said Singh.

He went on to say that Gill should be able to play on different pitches and not expect the same surfaces that he’s used to in the sub-continent. Gill will be expected to open India’s innings alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal in the fourth T20I of the series against the West Indies.

“The pitches are a bit challenging, no doubt, but if you’re playing at the international level, you’ll encounter different types of surfaces. It’s not like Indian pitches will always be the same, allowing you to play big shots through the line. But I feel the Indian team has decided that Shubman (Gill) will be opening the innings with Rohit Sharma in future,” Singh added.

The series is perfectly set up for a thrilling finish as India fought back to win the 3rd T20I to go 1-2 in the series. India’s previous record in Florida is positive news for the tourists. Barring the defeat in their first-ever T20I played here in 2016, India have been able to manage 4 wins in 6 matches at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground in Lauderhill.
