Watch: Jasprit Bumrah’s unplayable deliveries at India nets in Ireland
India pacer and captain for the Ireland series – Jasprit Bumrah was seen bowling some rippers at the Indian nets in Ireland, on Wednesday, 16 August. The Board of Control for Cricket in India posted a video snippet from India’s first practice ahead of the 3-match series, where Bumrah can be seen bowling a few rippers to the young India batters.
Jasprit Bumrah had been grappling with a recurring back injury that kept him off the field for an extended period. The fast bowler’s injury was first noticed in the summer of 2022, which led to his absence from the Asia Cup. Despite attempts to rush him back into action for the World T20, his participation only exacerbated the injury during a home series against Australia. This unfortunate turn of events resulted in Bumrah missing out on significant tournaments such as the Asia Cup, the T20 World Cup in 2022, and the entire IPL 2023 season.
In an attempt to address this persistent issue, Bumrah underwent successful back surgery in Christchurch, New Zealand, in March 2023. Following the operation, he embarked on a rigorous recovery process at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru, India. His rehabilitation involved bowling seven overs a day at the NCA nets, indicating a steady progress towards full recovery.
Bumrah’s absence was keenly felt by the Indian cricket team, as he was sidelined for nearly a year, missing India’s entire home season ahead of the World Test Championship Final.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced in July 2023 that Bumrah would lead the Indian side in a T20 series against Ireland, marking his comeback. This series, scheduled to take place from August 18 to 23, will be Bumrah’s first stint as captain in his white-ball career, adding another layer of responsibility to his return.
