WATCH: Comedy of errors during India-Ireland first T20I | Cricket News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: India kicked off the three-match series against Ireland with a two-run victory (DLS method) at The Village in Dublin. The match, however, was marred by rain interruptions, and after a delay of almost 50 minutes, the officials were forced to call off the match due to incessant rain.
During India’s chase of the 140-run target, there was a hilarious incident that left the fans in splits.
As it happened: India vs Ireland
In the second over, India openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ruturaj Gaikwad found themselves in a big mix-up while attempting to still a leg bye. Both ended up at the non-striker’s end, causing confusion on the field. However, what followed was a comedy of errors from the Ireland fielders as they failed to execute a run-out, giving the Indian batsmen a fortunate escape.

The incident took place during the second ball of the over, delivered by Joshua Little. A short of a length ball hit the thigh pad of Jaiswal, which deflected towards short fine leg. Gaikwad initiated the run but was unsure, leading to both batsmen landing up at the same end. Fortunately, the throw missed its mark, allowing Gaikwad to quickly change direction and make it to the striker’s end, thereby saving both his and Jaiswal’s wickets.

Despite the dramatic mix-up, India managed to recover and put up a good opening stand before the rain disrupted the game. This victory marks a successful comeback for Jasprit Bumrah, who played a crucial role in India’s bowling attack, returning figures of 2 for 24 in 4 overs.
