Ukraine: Global South under stress, need enduring Ukraine solution: Doval | India News – Times of India
The Jeddah meeting of top security officials, which was attended by about 40 countries, including the US and China, took place ahead of a possible “peace summit” that Ukraine has proposed.
Russia was not invited to the meeting. Several participating countries were reported to have supported Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s 10-point peace plan to end the conflict.Doval said though several peace proposals had been put forward, not one was acceptable to both sides. “The key question that needs to be addressed in this meeting is whether a solution that is acceptable to all relevant stakeholders can be found. Nothing will give India more happiness and satisfaction than such an outcome,” said Doval, according to government sources.
“All peace efforts involving all stakeholders must be pursued to find a just and enduring solution. It is in this spirit that India participated in the meeting in Jeddah,” he added. Unlike China, India had participated in a similar peace meeting in Copenhagen in June this year too.
As India looks to forge a consensus on the Ukraine issue that would allow the G20 summit in September to issue a joint communique focused on the needs of the developing countries, Doval underlined the fact that the whole world and especially Global South was bearing the brunt of the situation.
According to Doval, the Jeddah meeting confronted a two-fold challenge resolution of the situation and softening the consequences of the conflict.
