Ukraine: Doval in Jeddah for Ukraine peace talks; no invite for Russia | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: NSA Ajit Doval is in Jeddah to participate in the peace talks being hosted by the Saudi Arabian government to end the war in Ukraine. About 40 countries, including China, are participating in the meeting of top security officials.

Russia has not been invited for the meeting. Its Tass news agency reported Kremlin spokesperson Dmitri Peskov as saying, “Russia will keep an eye on this meeting” but would need “to fully understand what goals are being set”.
Doval’s US counterpart Jake Sullivan is also participating in the meeting that, as per Saudi authorities, will look to reinforce dialogue and cooperation through deliberations at the international level on “ways to ensure a solution for the crisis through political and diplomatic means and in a way that strengthens international peace and security, sparing the world further humanitarian, security, and economic repercussions of the crisis”.

For India, which will host the G20 summit in September, it’s important to forge a consensus on the Ukraine issue.
