Tottenham knew Harry Kane’s departure was coming, we have been working towards it: Ange Postecoglou
The football world has been buzzing over the summer with speculations about Harry Kane’s transfer. Tottenham’s star striker had rumours swirling around about his potential move to Bayern Munich.
Tottenham manager, Ange Postecoglou, confirmed that these rumours were not unfounded as he recently announced Kane’s departure from the club to Bayern Munich. The announcement, which came just two days before their season kickoff, raised a lot of questions about who will be filling Kane’s shoes.
When asked about his ‘plan’ to replace the star striker, the Australian tactician gave a rather humorous response. “I don’t think it works that way, mate. It’s not like my wife handed me a shopping list for milk and bread for the kids,” said Postecoglou. “We’ve been strategizing for some time around the fact that Harry most likely wouldn’t be staying. So, we didn’t have a panic session this morning. We’ve been expecting this and preparing accordingly.”
According to Postecoglou, Tottenham were already bracing for Kane’s exit and had been planning their future strategies accordingly, so there had been no shock or disarray within the team. Moreover, he mentioned that no new arrivals were expected prior to their first match against Brentford and he is focused on preparing for that.
As the dust settles on this major transfer, Postecoglou’s resilient stance suggested that Kane’s departure won’t derail their preparation for the new season. Even though last-minute transfers can throw teams into a state of chaos, Tottenham appear to be in control under their new manager.
Tottenham’s 2023-24 Premier League journey begins on Sunday, August 13, against Brentford at Gtech Community Stadium. The eyes of the footballing world will definitely be on them to see how they fare in the post-Kane era. The world watches on to see how Tottenham will navigate this new chapter.
