Tilak Varma and Sanju Samson could be India’s solution for No. 4 position in ODIs, feels Brad Hogg

Former Australia spinner Brad Hogg has tried to provide a solution to India’s No. 4 problems. Due to injuries to KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer, India have tried out several players in the position of No. 4 going into the ODI World Cup 2023.

The likes of Suryakumar Yadav, Sanju Samson, or Hardik Pandya for the matter have not been able to make the position their own in the run-up to the ODI World Cup 2023. Former Australian cricketer Brad Hogg has said one among Tilak Varma and Sanju Samson could become a solution to India’s problem.

“If they go with Gill and Rohit Sharma at the top of the order with Sanju Samson at No. 4 as the Indian keeper going into that World Cup. I think he can offer something substantial in that position,” Hogg said via his Instagram channel.

India keeper-batter in the West Indies series, Sanju Samson was not able to perform throughout the series. Samson showed promise once again and hit an aggressive half-century in the decider of the ODI series.

“If they’re (Iyer and Rahul) not fit, we need a keeper in this team. I don’t think Ishan Kishan can bat lower down the order. I think he is predominantly an opener,” Hogg said about Ishan Kishan’s inability to bat in the middle order.

“If they open with Kishan and Rohit Sharma, I would have Tilak Varma coming in at No. 4. He has hardly played any one-day cricket. But the way he has operated in T20 cricket shows that he has got the goods for any situation,” he further added.

India have the Asia Cup 2023 to settle down in a combination. India batter Suryakumar Yadav has said during the West Indies tour that India have 7-8 games ahead of the ODI World Cup 2023, which should be enough for India to figure out their playing XI.
