Telangana student dies in accident in US; state govt urges MEA to repatriate her mortal remains | Hyderabad News – Times of India
Gudla Soumya hailing from Yadagiripally village in Yadagirigutta went to the US and pursued her master’s from Florida Atlantic University.After completion of her studies, she was said to be looking for a job.
However, on May 26, Gudla Sowmya was hit by a speeding car when she was returning to her accommodation after buying some provisions. She died on the spot.
In a letter to the Embassy of India in Washington and MEA, the chief secretary of Telangana sought help to assist the family and send the mortal remains of Sowmya back to India. The victim’s father Gudla Koteshwar Rao also urged the govt for help.
The General Administration (NRI) Department provided the MEA and Embassy, a contact number of a social worker in the US and also the telephone number of Koteshwar Rao to coordinate with them in completing the formalities with the local authorities and the university to facilitate sending the body home at the earliest.
