Smriti Irani slams Rahul Gandhi for ‘flying kiss’ gesture in Parliament | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Union minister for women and child development Smriti Irani on Wednesday, without naming Rahul Gandhi, alleged that he misbehaved and “only a misogynistic man can gesture a flying kiss to female parliamentarians”.

Speaking in the Lok Sabha, the minister said: “I object to something. The one who was given the chance to speak before me displayed indecency before leaving.

It is only a misogynistic man who can give a flying kiss to a Parliament which seats female Members of Parliament. It shows the khandan (family) he comes from, and what his family and party feel about women.”

“This action lacks dignity,” Irani said while responding to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s earlier remarks in the Lok Sabha, wherein he referred to the situation in Manipur as “murder of India.”

Meanwhile, Union minister Shobha Karandlaje, along with other women BJP MPs, registered their complaints with Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla regarding Rahul Gandhi’s act of blowing a flying kiss within the Lok Sabha. They accused him of disrespecting and insulting the women MPs through his actions.
In a complaint, signed by more than 20 women parliamentarians, it was alleged that Rahul Gandhi behaved in an “indecent manner” which not only “insulted the dignity of women members in the House, but also brought disrepute and lowered the dignity of this august House”.

“By giving a flying kiss to all women members, Rahul Gandhi went away. This is a total misbehaviour of a Member. This is inappropriate and indecent behaviour of a Member,” Union minister Shobha Karandlaje said.

“Senior members are telling that this has never happened in the history of Parliament of India … What is this behaviour? What kind of a leader is he? That is why, we have complained to the Speaker to take CCTV footage of it and take action against him. This is what we have demanded,” Karandlaje added.

Speaking soon after Rahul Gandhi concluded his speech on the no-confidence debate in the House, Smriti Irani said Manipur is an integral part of India.
“Manipur is not divided, it is a part of this country. A member of his (opposition) alliance said in Tamil Nadu that India only means north India. If he has the courage, Rahul Gandhi should comment on this… another Congress leader said there should be a referendum on Kashmir… Was the statement given as per the order of the Congress leadership that a leader talked about referendum in Kashmir?” she said.
Earlier in Parliament Rahul Gandhi said that, “Bharat ek awaaz hai, Bharat hamari janta ki awaaz hai, dil ki awaaz hai. Uss awaaz ki hatya aapne Manipur mein ki. Iska matlab Bharat Mata ki hatya aapne Manipur mein ki…You killed India by killing the people of Manipur. You are a traitor, you are not a patriot.”
