Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar said that five people, including two cops, have lost their lives in the violence so far, which erupted during a VHP procession in Nuh. Khattar added that the violence appears to be a part of a “bigger conspiracy” and vowed strict action against the culprits.

‘Attack on VHP rally part of conspiracy’
Haryana chief minister Khattar said the attack on a VHP procession in Nuh seems to be part of a big conspiracy and asserted that strict action will be taken against the culprits.
Five people have been killed in the violence that erupted on Monday. Four people, including two home guards, died and many others injured in Nuh, where mobs tried to stop a Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) procession while naib imam was killed at a mosque in Gurugram.
Khattar’s remarks came hours after Haryana home minister Anil Vij said someone who wanted to disturb the peace in the state engineered the violence in Nuh.
According to an official statement, Khattar said that every year, the ‘Brij Mandal Jalabhishek Yatra’ used to be taken out. This year too, this Yatra was being taken out when the incidents occurred at around 2pm on Monday, he said.
Some people hatched a conspiracy and attacked the procession, Khattar said, adding police personnel were also attacked.
“Definitely, it looks like part of a big conspiracy,” the CM said.
Violence spreads to Gurugram
The tensions in Nuh spilled over to Gurugram and Sohna, where some shops were attacked by unruly mobs.
In Gurugram, a mosque was attacked in the Sector 57 area, leading to the death of a man. Shops were also set ablaze in the Badshahpur area.
Later in the day, incident of arsoning was also reported from some parts.
The district officials, however, said that the situation in the city has been brought under control.
“Law and order is normal. There were some spill-over impact in Sohna of whatever happened in Nuh yesterday, however, situation was brought under control by evening. The situation is peaceful now,” deputy commissioner Nishant Yadav said.
44 FIRs registerd, 70 held
As many as 44 FIRs have been registered so far in connection with the violence and 70 people taken into custody.
After the incident, Khattar had dispatched the DGP, ADGP (CID) and ADGP (law and order) to Nuh while police force from neighbouring districts was rushed and the Centre was requested to send additional forces, the statement said.
Sixteen companies of central forces and 30 companies of Haryana Police also reached Nuh and the situation in the district was normalised, said the CM.
The Haryana government said that some incidents of violence were reported in Gurugram, Palwal and Faridabad as well but the situation is now peaceful.
Curfew remains in violence-hit Nuh
Authorities on Tuesday imposed a curfew in Haryana’s Nuh district where the clashes originated.
The situation in Nuh continues to be tense. However, there were no reports of any fresh violence on Tuesday.
Security has been beefed up in Nuh and other areas, officials said.
Peace committees meetings held in Nuh, Sohna
A day after the clashes, peace committee meetings were held in Nuh and Sohna on Tuesday with people assuring the administration that they will cooperate fully in maintaining peace, officials said.
In Nuh, district deputy commissioner Prashant Pawar and SP Narendra Singh Bijarnia presided over the meeting. The SP appealed to the committee members to help identify the accused.
In Sohna, Gurugram DC Nishant Kumar Yadav appealed those attending the peace committee meeting to restore social harmony in the town. The DC appealed people to not pay heed to rumours and added that strict action would be taken against those trying to disturb harmony.
DCP (Headquarters) Deepak Gehlawat, DCP (South) Siddhant Jain, Sohna SDM Pradeep Singh, Sohna MLA Sanjay Singh, former MLA Tejpal Tanwar and others attended the meeting.
The situation in Sohna has improved and markets may open soon but the markets were closed in Badshahpur on Tuesday in protest against the Nuh and Sohna incident.
VHP demands NIA probe into violence
The Vishva Hindu Parishad on Tuesday likened the incident of violence in Haryana to a “terror attack” and demanded a probe into it by the National Investigation Agency.
Addressing a press conference, Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) joint general secretary Surendra Jain claimed that the attacks were carried out against Hindu devotees “in a pre-planned manner” during a religious procession on Monday and were “incited” by some Congress leaders of Haryana.
He also alleged intelligence failure of the state police and claimed that rioters used sophisticated weapons and other regular firearms to attack the Hindu devotees during the procession.
VHP activists will hold protests and demonstrations across the country on Wednesday against the “planned attacks” on Hindus in Haryana, Jain said.
NCPCR seeks inquiry into children’s involvement in stone pelting
Meanwhile, the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has sought an inquiry into alleged use of children in stone pelting and other illegal activities during the communal flare-up.
In a letter to Haryana administration, the apex child rights body has sought their urgent attention and action regarding the alleged exploitation of children in the Monday’s violence.
“The Commission requests your good offices to look into the matter and have a thorough inquiry of the events. Besides, the children which are being used in this illegal protest should be identified and produced before the Child Welfare Committee, if required for ensuring their protection,” the commission said in the letter.
In light of several distressing social media posts, the NCPCR expressed its grave concern over the “involvement of minors” in stone pelting and other illegal activities during the attack on a Vishva Hindu Parishad procession in Nuh.
