Sandeep Lamichhane included as Nepal announce squad for Asia Cup 2023

Nepal has announced their 17-man squad for the 2023 Asia Cup with spinner Sandeep Lamichhane also finding a place in the squad. Nepal will be playing their first-ever Asia Cup, which is set to be hosted by Sri Lanka and Pakistan, starting August 30.

Leading the Nepalese team as captain is Rohit Paudel, a young prodigy whose leadership skills and exceptional talent have earned him this prestigious role. The squad also includes notable players such as Asif Sheikh, Kusal Bhurtel, and Kushal Malla, who are expected to bolster Nepal’s batting prospects. On the bowling front, the selection of Sandeep Lamichhane, Karan KC, and Sompal Kami underscores Nepal’s commitment to fielding a competitive team.

Lamichhane has also been included in the 17-member squad. He was suspended in September last year after an arrest warrant was issued against him in Kathmandu over an alleged case of coercion of another person. He was granted bail for the equivalent of around USD 15,300 and eventually saw his ban lifted in February this year.

Nepal’s first match will be against Pakistan on August 30th in Multan, marking the opening of the tournament. This will be followed by a match against India on September 4th in Kandy, Sri Lanka. The team’s inclusion in Group A, alongside cricketing giants India and Pakistan, presents an exciting challenge for the Nepalese squad.

The announcement of the 17-man squad has generated considerable excitement among cricket fans in Nepal and beyond. This tournament provides an excellent platform for Nepal to showcase its cricketing prowess and leave a lasting impression on the international cricketing stage.

In preparation for the tournament, the Nepalese team will undergo a week-long training camp in Pakistan, where they will play matches against teams designated by the Pakistan Cricket Board. This intensive preparation period is expected to equip the players with the necessary skills and strategies to face their opponents in the upcoming tournament.
