Rinku Singh on India selection for Ireland T20Is: Became emotional when I saw my jersey
Rinku Singh said that he was emotional when he saw his name on the back of the Indian jersey. The southpaw recently earned a call-up to the Indian team for the three-match T20I series, which starts on Friday, August 18 at The Village in Dublin.
On Thursday, August 17, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) uploaded a video where Jitesh Sharma interviewed Rinku.
“It’s a good feeling because every player’s dream is to play for India. When I saw my jersey No.35 after reaching my room, I became emotional. The thing I was working hard for was finally here,” Rinku was quoted as saying in the video uploaded on BCCI’s official website.
The 25-year-old Rinku thanked his mother for being a pillar of strength and always motivating him to don the national colours.
“I was in Noida where I practice with my friends. When the team was announced, I was delighted and I called my mother. She always motivated me to play for India,” he added.
Rinku was picked for the Ireland tour on the back of a sensational campaign for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He finished as the leading run-scorer for Nitish Rana’s men, having racked up 474 runs from 14 matches at an average of 59.25 and a strike-rate of 149.52 with a top score of 67 not out.
In one of the matches against Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Rinku hit Yash Dayal for five sixes in a row to help KKR snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.
