JAIPUR: PM Narendra Modi accused Congress of running a “loot ki dukan” (shop of loot) in a “jhooth ka bazaar” (market of lies) in Rajasthan, claiming at a public rally in Sikar on Thursday that a “red diary” contained the party’s “kale karname” (black deeds).

He said the red diary is “the latest product of Congress’s loot shop” and it will contribute to the party’s defeat in the Rajasthan assembly elections, due later this year. The Sikar event marked the ninth visit of the PM to the poll-bound state in eight months, indicating BJP’s strong focus on the assembly and Lok Sabha elections.
The mysterious diary came into the spotlight after sacked minister Rajendra Singh Gudha made sensational claims this week about its contents. Gudha alleged that the diary contained details of transactions made to independent MLAs and certain BJP MLAs during the political crisis triggered by Sachin Pilot’s rebellion and the subsequent Rajya Sabha elections in 2020.

At the Sikar rally, the PM gave his take on Mahatma Gandhi’s “Quit India” slogan. “Today’s slogan is Corruption Quit India, Nepotism Quit India and Appeasement Quit India.” Modi took a dig at the opposition, particularly Congress, saying the slogan “Indira is India and India is Indira” during the era of former PM Indira Gandhi has now changed to “UPA is India and India is UPA”.
The PM said: “To make sure the UPA’s misdeeds are not remembered, its (name) has been changed to INDIA. Congress and its allies have started a new trick. This trick is to change the name. Earlier, when a generation or a company used to get defamed, it immediately put up a new board and tried to run its business by confusing people. Congress is doing the same.”
There is only one slogan this time, “Nahi Sahega Rajasthan”, he said, underscoring that the state will not tolerate atrocities on sisters and daughters. Modi targeted the Ashok Gehlot government over paper leaks in recruitment exams, alleging the existence of a “paper leak industry” in Rajasthan. He assured the crowd that his government would take steps to en sure farmers do not suffer due to the price of urea. “I have a guarantee…the fortunes of Rajasthan will change and lotus will bloom,” he said.
The PM highlighted the Centre’s efforts to support farmers over the years. CM Gehlot, who is recovering from foot in juries, attended the PM’s function virtually from his residence in Jaipur.
