Rains in Telangana Today: 80 tourists stuck at Mulugu waterfall rescued; red alert in 9 districts | Hyderabad News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: All 80 tourists who were stuck at Mutyaladara waterfall, located deep in the forest in Mulugu district, have been rescued, informed Mulugu superintendent of police (SP) Gaush Alam.

District administration and police had launched a rescue operation on Wednesday to rescue them. Rivulets and streams are in spate in Venkatapuram as the area received 19cm rainfall on Wednesday.
The tourists, mostly from Warangal, went to Mutyaladara, located seven kilometres from the Venkatapuram main road in a thick forest area, on a pleasure trip.

While reaching the scenic waterfall, they had to cross two streams which had a normal flow in the morning hours. Due to heavy rainfall locally and upstream areas in neighbouring Chhattisgarh, the streams received heavy inflows by evening.
The tourists tried to cross the swollen streams, but due to the heavy inflows, they could not cross them.
Red alert in nine Telangana districts
India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for nine districts in the state amid heavy rains in many parts of the state.
Heavy rains, under the influence of a new low pressure area over Bay of Bengal, lashed the state on Wednesday with Karakagudem of Kothagudem district recording 326mm of rainfall .
At least 12 other districts -Warangal, Mulugu, Khammam, Jangaon, Mahbubabad, Adilabad — recorded over 100mm rains, raising concerns of flooding across Godavari basin.
Two mandals in Telangana, Venkatapur and Chityal have recorded over 60cm of rainfall in 24 hours.
