Rain toll reaches 28 in Telangana, hunt on for missing in Mulugu | Hyderabad News – Times of India
In the worst-hit village of Moranchapalle in Jayashank-ar Bhupalpally, officials used drones to retrieve two bodies. Two more persons have reportedly been washed away but their bodies have not been found as yet. Superintendent of police Pulla Karunakar said police, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and expert swimmers were trying to locate them.
Mulugu district’s Kondai village, on the other hand, is bracing for the possibility that more of its residents may not come back alive. At least eight bodies were recovered on Friday while another seven are still missing.
District officials said that a group of 15 people had decided to walk to a neighbouring village after they saw the flood waters rising near their homes. However, the bridge they were hoping to cross to reach Malyala village next door, had been washed away and the group was caught in the swirling waters of the Jampanna Vagu.
In Bhadradri Kothagudem district, the body of a 33-year-old man was recovered. The body of S K Gulab Pasha of Ayyannapalem in Chanddrugonda mandal was retrieved from the Thippapalli lake on Friday. He had been missing since July 26.
In Nizamabad, tragedy struck a family after their three-year-old son was bitten by snakes in their dilapidated house. The victim, Rudransh, was rushed to a hospital but died while being treated. The incident took place in Binola village of Navipet mandal when the family – Bhoomaiah and his wife Harshitha – were sleeping in a room with their two children, the three-year-old boy and a three-month old daughter. Bhoomaiah who noticed the snakes after they had bitten the boy killed them and rushed his son to the hospital but the boy could not be saved.
Meanwhile, the water level has been constantly rising in the Godavari river at Bhadrachalam in Bhadradri Kothagudem district. For the first time this year, the authorities issued a third warning as the water crossed the 53 feet mark. Thousands of people have already been shifted into relief camps. At 6 pm on Saturday, the water level touched 55.60 feet.
Transport minister P Ajay Kumar flew in an IAF chopper and surveyed Godavari flow. He also served food to people at relief centres. A large number of people have been affected by the overflowing Munneru river in Khammam.
Roads leading to neighbouring Chattisgarh have been closed as they have been inundated in flood waters. A bridge connecting Telangana and Maharashtra too has been closed at Venkatraopet in Sirupur mandal in Asifabad district. Another road leading to Maharashtra from Jakkapur too has been closed.
