Punjab police unearth international drug racket; heroin worth Rs 90 crore seized | Amritsar News – Times of India

GURDASPUR: Punjab police have uncovered an international drug racket entangling drug peddlers from the US, Pakistan and India following the recovery of 18 kg heroin valued at around Rs 90 crore from three Punjab-based smugglers, including a woman.

Straight out of a Bollywood flick, the tale of drug smugglers emerges on the enchanting Dal Lake in Srinagar.
The trio, including this mysterious woman, spent a night in a Shikara before embarking on its journey home.

Unaware of its fate, the group found itself caught in a police dragnet, their audacious escapade taking an unexpected twist.
Gurdaspur senior superintendent of police Harish Dayma said on Thursday that acting on specific information, the Special Cell, led by assistant superintendent of police Aditya S Warrier and deputy superintendent of police Sukhpal Singh, set up a strategic checkpoint at a sugar mill in Paniar.
They intercepted a car and, upon inspection, discovered approximately 18 kg of high-quality heroin.
The police also seized a camera and the Swift car.
The three occupants — who were identified as Vikranjit Singh from Jakhkpal (Sangrur), Kuldep Singh from Gurdi (Mansa) and Sandeep Kaur from Mimsa (Sangrur) — were subsequently arrested, Harish said.
During preliminary investigations, it came to light that the suspected smugglers had been in communication with an individual named Mandeep Singh from the US, receiving instructions from him.
The trio travelled to Srinagar, where it parked its car at a predetermined location and spent the night in a Shikara.
The following day, all of them commenced their journey back home.
Sources indicated that an unknown contact from Kashmir took possession of their car, loaded it with contraband, and returned the keys to the trio.
Sources said that the heroine was smuggled from Pakistan into Jammu and Kashmir indicating the involvement of Pakistan-based drugs smugglers.
Harish confirmed that the trio indeed stayed overnight in a Shikara on Dal Lake.
He stated that the investigations were still in their early stages and the police were actively attempting to trace information about US-based Mandeep Singh.
Harish further revealed that Sandeep Kaur had recently returned from Croatia and possessed a substantial following on her social media account.
An FIR under relevant sections of the NDPS Act has been registered at Dinanagar police station, the SSP said.
