Premier League: Nottingham Forest complete signing of Arsenal goalkeeper Matt Turner

United States Men’s National Team goalkeeper Matt Turner has joined Nottingham Forest from Arsenal. The 29-year-old signed a four-year deal with Forest, marking a new chapter in his career.

Turner first caught the attention of the global football community with his stellar performances for the Major League Soccer side, New England Revolution. His skills and agility between the posts earned him a move to Arsenal last summer. However, his stint with the Gunners was brief, making only seven appearances in the past season.

The imminent arrival of David Raya from Brentford would have seen Turner slip further down the pecking order at Arsenal. Hence, the move to Nottingham Forest came at the right time. “It feels great to be here. It’s a great challenge and a great step in my career,” Turner expressed his excitement about the move.

Nottingham Forest, who secured their Premier League survival last season, will be looking forward to capitalizing on Turner’s expertise. With Dean Henderson and Keylor Navas returning to their parent clubs after their loan spell at Forest, Turner is expected to be the club’s number one goalkeeper this year.

Meanwhile, Arsenal Sporting Director Edu thanked Turner on behalf of the club and wished him the best for his future with Forest.

“On behalf of everyone at the club, we would like to thank Matt for his contribution to Arsenal and wish him and his family all the best in their new chapter. Matt is an international goalkeeper with the United States and is at a stage of his career when he needs to be playing regularly. He is leaving with our best wishes to join Nottingham Forest,” said Edu.

Interestingly, Turner could make his debut against his former club, Arsenal, when Forest kick-off their Premier League season at the Emirates. This adds an extra layer of intrigue to his transfer story.

The signing of Turner also means that Nottingham Forest now houses two US international goalkeepers, with Colorado-born Ethan Horvath already in the squad. This move not only strengthens Forest’s defense but also marks a significant milestone in Turner’s career.

Turner’s move from Arsenal to Nottingham Forest is a win-win situation for both the player and the club, promising an exciting season ahead.
