Premier League: Liverpool complete signing of Japan midfielder Wataru Endo from Stuttgart

Liverpool has completed the signing of the Japanese midfielder Wataru Endo from Bundesliga side VfB Stuttgart. The 30-year-old has signed a four-year deal with the Reds.

While the financial details of the move have not been officially disclosed, reports from British media suggest that Liverpool parted with approximately GBP 16 million (USD 20.33 million) to secure Endo’s services.

Speaking after his move to Liverpool, Endo said it is a dream come true for him, insisting that he can help the team defensively and will provide good organization in the midfield.

“I’m very happy right now and I’m so excited to join a big club in Liverpool. It feels amazing and this is my dream. It’s a dream come true for me. I play as a number six and I’m like a bit more of a defensive player. I think I can help this club defensively and I will have good organisation in the middle. I think that’s my job,” said Endo.

Endo, who boasts an impressive record with over 50 caps for Japan’s national team, becomes Liverpool’s third major signing of the current season following the acquisitions of Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai. This move comes as part of the club’s strategy to strengthen the squad, especially focusing on the midfield, after the significant departures of former skipper Jordan Henderson and Fabinho to the Saudi Pro League.

Liverpool’s endeavors in the transfer market this season have not all been successful. They missed out on signing Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia, who have both eventually signed long-term contracts with rival club Chelsea.

Despite the setback, Liverpool is demonstrating intent to get back on top of the Premier League. The Reds kicked off their season with a 1-1 draw against Chelsea, showing early signs of the competitive edge that the team possesses. The arrival of Endo, with his experience and skill set, is expected to provide a much-needed boost to their midfield.

Looking ahead, Liverpool’s next match is against Bournemouth on Saturday. All eyes would indeed be on Wataru Endo as he begins his Premier League journey with Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool.
