Premier League: Bukayo Saka scores wonder goal as Arsenal edge Nottingham Forest 2-1 at Emirates Stadium

England forward Bukayo Saka scored a stunning goal as Arsenal edged Nottingham Forest 2-1 in their opening match of the 2023/24 Premier League at the Emirates Stadium in London.

After a perfect setup from Gabriel Martinelli, Nketiah fired the opening goal in the 26th minute, marking the outset of Arsenal’s triumph. The move began with a magnificent display of skill, a turn followed by a back-heel pass from Martinelli, leading Nketiah straight into the vicinity of the goal.

Subsequently, Saka doubled Arsenal’s advantage with a long-range effort in the 32nd minute. Saka buried a shot from outside the box past his former teammate Matt Turner, who joined Forest earlier this week.

However, the second half of the game noted a discernible drop in Arsenal’s pressure. They seemed to relax and this lapse in concentration nearly cost them. Taiwo Awoniyi exploited this opportunity and turned into a ray of hope for Forest by scoring a spectacular goal in the 82nd minute. This late goal swelled from an immaculate counter-attack, infusing life back into the match for Forest.

Despite a sudden thrust by Forest, Arsenal managed to maintain their stronghold in the game, and went on to secure all the three points in their opening match of the season. Their victory not only marked a triumphant day for the team but also laid a substantial emphasis on their marksmanship and their ability to handle pressure during critical junctures of the game.

The Gunners finished second in the league last season, with 84 points from 38 matches, falling five points short of winners Manchester City. With Pep Guardiola’s City defeating Burnley 3-0 in their opening match, it was crucial for Arsenal to start their 2023/24 campaign off with three points.

Arsneal will now face Crystal Palace in their next match in the Premier League on August 22, before locking horns with another London-based club in Fulham on August 26.
