Speaking to Cricbuzz, Patel said Gill was outstanding in the fourth T20I, insisting that we all know the potential of the opening batter. Gill scored 77 runs off 47 balls, hitting three boundaries and five sixes in Florida.

“Shubman Gill was outstanding today. We know the potential of Shubman Gill; we have the tendency of questioning someone who doesn’t get runs. After just a couple of performances here and there, we should not say he can’t play T20s or he can’t play ODIs,” said Patel.

He went on to say that Gill was outstanding in his shot selection, adding that he is a player of all formats. Gill registered India’s highest opening-wicket partnership with Yashasvi Jaiswal in T20I, amassing 165 runs for the first wicket.

“We need to keep faith in players and an approach. When you are trying to play attacking cricket, you might get out, especially an opener playing T20 format. Shubman Gill was outstanding with his shot selection, and Yashasvi Jaiswal yet again has shown how good a player he is. He is probably a player of all formats,” Patel added.

Speaking about Gill’s opening partner Jaiswal, Patel called him a player for the future and will serve India in all three formats of the game. Jaiswal remained unbeaten on 84 runs off 51 balls, hitting 11 boundaries and three sixes.

“He was on top of his game. Jaiswal is the player for the future, and he will probably serve India in all three formats for a long time,” said Patel.

After defeating West Indies by nine wickets in Florida and leveling the five-match series 2-2, India will play the final match of the series at the same venue on August 13.
