Parliament Monsoon Session LIVE: Delhi Services Bill, Data Protection Bill Spark Uproar
New Delhi:
The contentious Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, 2023 and Digital Personal Data Protection Bill, 2023 were taken up in the Lok Sabha today.
The Delhi Bill was moved by Home Minister Amit Shah for consideration and passing in the House. The Data Bill was introduced by Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav.
The opposition INDIA bloc opposed the Digital Data bill demanding a reconsideration by parliamentary standing committee.
The bill empowers the Central Government to make rules in connection with the affairs of the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi including the functions, terms and other conditions of service of officers and employees.

In a development that could end the impasse in Parliament, the Opposition has agreed on a debate on the Manipur situation under any rule, sources have told NDTV. The Opposition, however, has made it clear that its demand for a statement by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the situation in the Northeastern state stands.
Union ministers Piyush Goyal and Pralhad Joshi are meeting opposition leaders in the chamber of LoP Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge in Parliament. The opposition wants a full-fledged discussion on the Manipur issue in Rajya Sabha and demands a statement on it from the PM.

Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankar hit back at Leader Of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge for accusing him of defending the PM and not issuing a directive for him to appear in the house and speak on the Manipur issue. “PM Modi has been recognised on the global level. He is not required to be defended by me. I am only here to defend the constitution,” he replied.

Floor Leaders To Meet Rajya Sabha Chairman At 1PM Over Manipur
“I will invite floor leaders in my chamber at 1 pm. We will accomodate a discussion on Manipur irrespective of time constraint,” Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankar said.
“It is imperative to discuss Manipur. In the heart of hearts, everyone wants it. In this house, to exemplify our maturity, let us lend our ear to the other point of view also,” he said.
Trinamool MP Derek O’Brien today reiterated the Opposition’s demand to discuss the Manipur situation. “We are not here to show ego or arrogance. People of this country need to hear us talk about the situation in Manipur,” he told Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar
Opposition leaders continued to raise slogans and holding placards in the Lok Sabha during Question Hour demanding the Prime Minister to speak on the situation in Manipur in the Parliament.
“We will oppose the Delhi Services Bill legislatively and also fight judicially for the safety of democracy in this country. We will present our arguments before a constitutional bench of the Supreme Court. We will fight against it in court,” AAP’s Raghav Chadha told NDTV.
Congress leader Manish Tewari on Thursday asked how the Digital Data Protection Bill can be classified as a financial bill, and said it should be considered as a regular bill. The bill should again go to a Joint Parliamentary Committee, he said.
The bill aims to make entities like internet companies, mobile apps, and business houses more accountable and answerable about collection, storage and processing of the data of citizens as part of Right to Privacy.
