Out on bail, vigilante Bittu Bajrangi arrested again, for rioting in Nuh | India News – Times of India

GURGAON: Bittu Bajrangi, the Bajrang Dal member and cow vigilante out on bail for a provocative video posted ahead of the communal clash on July 31, has been arrested again, this time by Nuh police for alleged involvement in rioting and carrying arms on the day of the violence.

Bittu, whose name is Raj Kumar, was arrested from his house in Faridabad by a Nuhpolice team of 10-12 cops dressed in plain clothes. Police filed the case themselves – with ASP Usha Kundu as complainant – based on their investigations.

CCTV footage posted by news agencies also showed a group of men armed with guns and lathis – apparently the police team – rushing towards a house as locals looked on. Seconds later, they are seen walking away with a man, believed to be Bittu, in their custody.

According to the FIR, which was registered at Sadar police station in Nuh, Kundu was on duty at Nalhar temple, which was a stop for the religious yatra that was passing through Nuh on July 31 and was disrupted as communal violence broke out.

Bittu and around 15-20 of his supporters allegedly came to the temple carrying swords and tridents.When police intercepted them and tried to seize the weapons, the group became “aggressive” and started shouting slogans against police, the ASP said in the complaint. They then assaulted cops before the group was detained in a police vehicle. Eventually, Bittu and his supporters managed to open the rear window of the police vehicle and escape with their weapons, according to the FIR.
Bittu (45) and the unidentified accused have been booked under Sections 148 (rioting, being armed with deadly weapon), 149 (unlawful assembly ), 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty), 353 (assault, criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of duty), 186 (voluntarily obstructing any public servant in the discharge of duty), 395 (dacoity), 397 (dacoity, with attempt to cause death or grievous hurt), 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC and provisions of the Arms Act. It was during the religious procession that armed mobs attacked cops and participants of the yatra. News of the clash fanned communal violence in Gurgaon, Palwal and other districts.

Bittu was arrested by Faridabad police on August 2 for posting a Facebook video with the provocative “tumhara jija aa raha hai (your brother-inlaw is coming)” jibe that was widely circulated on social media in the build-up to the Brij Mandal Jalabhishek Yatra on July 31. The statement, made in a charged atmosphere, was perceived as a dare and a reference to the presence of cow vigilante leader Mohit Yadav, alias Monu Manesar, at the yatra. His video, made hours before the procession, also triggered a series of retaliatory videos and posts, warning against his or Monu Manesar’s presence during the yatra. Monu is an accused in the murder case filed in Rajasthan for the murder of two men, Nasir and Junaid, whose bodies were found charred in an SUV in Haryana’s Bhiwani earlier this February. He is yet to be arrested.
