No-confidence motion in Lok Sabha: For PM, Manipur is not India, Rahul Gandhi says | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday opened his speech on the no-confidence motion in the Lok Sabha by thanking Speaker Om Birla for reinstating his lower house membership. Then, he immediately brought up the issue of Adani.

“Speaker Sir, first of all, I would like to thank you for reinstating me as an MP of the Lok Sabha. When I spoke the last time, perhaps I caused you trouble because I focussed on Adani – maybe your senior leader was pained…That pain might have had an impact on you as well. I apologise to you for that. But I spoke the truth. Today, my friends in BJP need not be scared because my speech today is not on Adani,” Rahul said in his opening remark.
Today is the second of the debate on the no-confidence motion moved by the opposition block INDIA against the Modi government.

‘Will speak from heart, not my mind’
“I want to speak from my heart today. I won’t launch a fierce attack on the government today like I always do,” he said.
‘For PM, Manipur is not India’
Rahul accused the Modi government of dividing Manipur into two parts. “A few days back, I went to Manipur. Our PM didn’t go, not even to this day, because for him Manipur is not India,” he said.
“You have murdered Bharat Mata in Manipur,” Gandhi said.
“Bharat ek awaaz hai, Bharat hamari janta ki awaaz hai, dil ki awaaz hai. Uss awaaz ki hatya aapne Manipur mein ki. Iska matlab Bharat Mata ki hatya aapne Manipur mein ki…You killed India by killing the people of Manipur. You are a traitor, you are not a patriot,” Rahul Gandhi said amid sloganeering by NDA MPs.
Rahul Gandhi’s remarks that politics of the BJP murdered India in Manipur evoked a strong response from treasury benches. Union minister Kiren Rijiju and other BJP MPs asked the the Congress leader to apologise for his comments.
