Ncc: ‘Senior’ flogs NCC cadets, viral video triggers row | India News – Times of India

THANE: Around a dozen junior students from National Cadet Corps (NCC) were subjected to flogging, purportedly by a ‘senior’, on the campus of Vidya Prasarak Mandal (VPM) in Thane. The incident came to light after an undated video of the brutal thrashing went viral.

The video is shot by a former student from a neighbouring building, where she is heard saying that corporal-style punishment was meted out to junior students for over 15 minutes.
The video showed the juniors bending down on the ground in rainwater and muck in an uncomfortable plank-like position, but with the upper body supported by the head instead of hands, which were locked behind. The senior student, armed with a hard wooden log or pipe, is seen hitting them on their lower back in a bestial manner for losing balance.

One of the boys who fell on the ground after being hit by the senior even pleads to stop the assault. He was asked to bend forward in the same position again.
Sources informed that the NCC training in the campus is jointly given to students from colleges under the same management. The senior student is said to be from Bandodkar College, another college under VPM. It is learnt that the senior seen assaulting the juniors has been suspended from the NCC.
Speaking to the media, Principal of VPM’s Joshi-Bedekar College, Suchitra Naik, said, “… the man who is seen beating up the juniors is a student and not a faculty member. Such incidents should not happen, but unfortunately it has happened, and the authorities shall take action…” “If anyone has any issue, they should meet the authorities. No one should leave NCC due to such incident. Parents and students should keep faith in us,” the principal added. Speaking to media, NCP’s Jitendra Awhad said, “I have studied in this college, and this is unfortunate.”
