Miscreants in Aligarh damage 200-year-old dargah | Agra News – Times of India

AGRA: Four ‘minars’ (tower) of a dargah attached to a mosque were allegedly broken by unknown miscreants in Aligarh district late on Monday.

Tension erupted the next morning, soon after news of the “desecration” of the dargah, situated on a stretch nearly 50km from the city’s outskirts, spread across the area. Police registered a case against unidentified persons and started an investigation. Heavy police force was deployed. Cops also ordered immediate repair of the ‘minars’.
DSP (Chharra) Shivendu Singh said on Tuesday, “An FIR has been registered under IPC section 295 (injuring or defiling place of worship with intent to insult the religion of any class). Police teams have been formed to catch the culprits. Further investigation is on.”

Dargah caretaker Banne Shah, 65, said, “As per my day’s normal routine, I had left the dargah premises, which is attached to a mosque, at around 10pm on Monday.”

When I returned from my village in Bhamori on Tuesday, I found the minars broken. I alerted the local police immediately,” Shah said.
Shah added: “Locally known as ‘Taad Shah Baba ka mazar’, the tomb is nearly 200 years old. The place is not only visited by Muslims but people of other faiths, including Hindus. They come here in large numbers to pray. Once the news of the desecration spread, many Hindu followers, too, reached the site and demanded immediate arrest of the miscreants.”
The dargah is situated between Chharra and Bhamori villages under Chhara police station in Aligarh district, Shah said.
SHO of Chharra, Krishanpal Singh, added, “It seems that the act was perpetrated by antisocial elements. They may have damaged the minars at night under the influence of alcohol.”
