NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to reply on the no-confidence motion in the Lok Sabha today.

Today is the third and final day of debate on the no-confidence motion moved by Congress and backed by the opposition block INDIA against the NDA government in the Lok Sabha over violence in Manipur. In the last two days of debate, many prominent leaders from the government and opposition parties have spoken on a range of issues, including the violence in Manipur.
‘Hope he answers questions’: Congress ahead of PM Modi’s reply
Congress MP Manickam Tagore said that they hope that PM answers the questions raised by Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi on the first day of the motion.
“From July 20, the INDIA alliance has been demanding that the PM must come to Parliament, speak about Manipur and give a statement of peace and solidarity with the people there. It has taken 14 days for the Prime Minister to come to Parliament…Now, we hope that he answers the question raised by the mover Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi…” said Tagore while speaking to ANI.
Rahul Gandhi vs Smriti Irani on day 2
During the second day of the no-confidence motion debate brought forward by the Congress in the Lok Sabha, a heated confrontation unfolded between Rahul Gandhi and Union ministers. Rahul Gandhi accused the government of undermining ‘Bharat Mata’ and labeled members of the ruling party as “traitors.” This led to a swift response from Union ministers Amit Shah and Smriti Irani, who urged Rahul Gandhi to refrain from politicizing the ethnic tensions in Manipur.
During his 37-minute speech, which marked his first since his reinstatement following the Supreme Court’s stay on his defamation conviction, Rahul Gandhi alleged that the government had divided Manipur into two.
Responding immediately after Rahul, Smriti Irani criticized his reference to ‘Bharat Mata,’ stating that this was an unprecedented statement in parliamentary democracy. She accused Rahul of endorsing the idea of dividing India and reiterated that Manipur remains an integral part of the country.
Subsequent to Rahul’s impassioned address, Amit Shah addressed the Congress’s range of issues, including alleged scams during the UPA governments. Shah accused Rahul of engaging in “drama” during his visit to Manipur, suggesting that the government had been prepared to facilitate his visit to various areas.
Acknowledging the cycle of violence in Manipur, Shah called for an end to the three-month-long unrest, appealing to the Kukis and Meiteis to engage in dialogue and contribute to restoring peace.
Shah clarified that there would be no change of leadership in Manipur. He also questioned the timing of the video depicting the May 4 incident of two women being paraded naked, highlighting its release on July 19, just prior to the monsoon session of Parliament.
The Modi-led NDA government holds an overwhelming majority in the Lok Sabha and the no-confidence motion is set to be defeated in the lower house.
