LaLiga: Real Madrid’s Arda Guler set to be out for months due to knee surgery

Real Madrid’s 18-year-old Turkish football sensation, Arda Guler, has been sidelined for months due to a knee surgery. This unfortunate event has made him the third player that Real Madrid has lost to a knee problem.

Guler, who was born on February 25, 2005, in Ankara, Turkey, is a highly sought-after young talent in the world of football. He began his youth career at the Ankara-based club Gençlerbirligi in 2014 and later joined Fenerbahçe’s youth ranks in 2019. His professional contract with Fenerbahçe started on January 13, 2021, and lasted for two and a half years. During this time, he was seen as a wunderkind and a promising prospect for the future.

In July 2023, Real Madrid won the race to sign Guler from Fenerbahçe, where he had been one of the most important players. The left-footed playmaker had topped the stats charts for assists per 90 minutes, key passes per 90 minutes, successful dribbles per 90 minutes, and more. His signing was a significant addition to Real Madrid’s midfield, and he was set to form part of Los Blancos’ 2023/24 first-team squad.

However, Guler’s journey with Real Madrid hit a roadblock when he had to return home early from the club’s pre-season tour in the United States due to a knee injury. This led to him undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his right knee under the supervision of Real Madrid’s Medical Services. The surgery came after Real Madrid had already lost goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois and defender Eder Militao to anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries.

Despite these setbacks, Real Madrid remains optimistic about Guler’s recovery. They have announced that he will start his recovery program in the coming days. Meanwhile, Real Madrid continues its LaLiga campaign, having beaten Athletic Bilbao 2-0 in their opening game. Their next match is scheduled to be away at Almeria on Saturday.
