JP Nadda rejigs team, ex-AMU VC appointed BJP national vice president | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: BJP president JP Nadda on Saturday reshuffled the team of national office-bearers, dropping two general secretaries and drafting in former Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) vice chancellor Tariq Mansoor, a Pasmanda Muslim, as vice-president in what is seen as part of its outreach to the backward minority community ahead of a string of elections leading to the big battle of 2024.

Other important inclusions were former Telangana chief Bandi Sanjay as general secretary, new recruit Anil Antony, son of former defence minister and Congress veteran AK Antony, as national secretary and Pankaja Munde, also as secretary. Pankaja Munde was reportedly unhappy over Dhananjay Munde’s induction as a minister in the recent reshuffle of the Maharashtra ministry.
Former chief ministers Raman Singh, Vasundhara Raje and Raghubar Das are among the seasoned leaders who were retained as vice-presidents in the new list. The rejig, with an eye on the upcoming elections, is notable more for the smaller messages it contains. With Mansoor being inducted as a party vice-president, there are two Muslims in the position now.
