Joshimath: After Joshimath, cracks now in homes 90km from Doon | India News – Times of India

DEHRADUN: Following large-scale subsidence in Joshimath town of Chamoli district, fresh cracks and incidents of sinking have been reported in over two dozen houses at Khamroli village and surrounding areas of Kalsi block in Dehradun district. It’s 90km from the state capital.

Locals on Thursday said several houses in Khamroli village had developed cracks in the past, which have widened this monsoon season. Besides, incidents of subsidence are being noticed in Pajitilani, Tipau and Sahiya-Patan where large cracks have appeared on the roads.
People claimed that road-cutting work earlier to construct a stretch between Pajitilani and Chibau-Khamroli under the Pradhan Mantri Gramin Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) had resulted in cracks in Khamroli. The village houses around 50 families. “Gradual subsidence got aggravated this monsoon and we’ve informed the authorities,” said a resident.

Sunil Kumar, executive engineer, PMGSY, told TOI, “The road cutting was carried out by PWD and the construction project was handed over to PMGSY. There is a problem of subsidence there and it needs a thorough geological investigation.”
Kumar said PMGSY has prepared a budget estimate to repair roads that are witnessing subsidence in Kalsi. “The situation is worse in Khamroli, Tipau, Pajitilani and Patan,” he said. Kalsi SDM Yukta Mishra said: “PWD and PMGSY are supposed to hold a geological survey and ascertain the cause of subsidence”.
Cracks and subsidence have been also reported from Karnaprayag, Landour in Mussoorie and Marora village in Rudraprayag district.
