Jasprit Bumrah-led Indian team departs for Ireland on Independence Day ahead of 3-match T20I series


The Jasprit Bumrah-led Indian side has left for Ireland on the morning of Independence Day to play a three-match Twenty20 International (T20I) series. The BCCI took to social media on Tuesday morning and posted pictures of the team leaving for Ireland.

Bumrah is set to make his much-anticipated comeback to the international cricket scene during the upcoming T20I series in Ireland this August. The star Indian pacer has been entrusted with the captaincy of the Indian side by the senior men’s team selection committee led by Ajit Agarkar.

Ruturaj Gaikwad, who will lead India’s men’s cricket team in the Asian Games 2023, has been named as vice-captain. The likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Tilak Varma, who are also part of the squad for a 5-match T20I series against the West Indies in August 1st week, have been named in the squad.

Sanju Samson has been named as the first-choice wicketkeeper, while Punjab Kings star Jitesh Sharma is back in the mix as the second wicketkeeper.

All-rounder Washington Sundar has been named alongside left-arm spinner Shahbaz Ahmed. Meanwhile, Shivam Dube, who last played a T20I for India in February 2022, returns to the squad. The Chennai Super Kings all-rounder, who has been in fine form for West Zone in the ongoing Deodhar Trophy campaign, is also part of the Asian Games squad.
