Jammu Kashmir Election Results 2024 LIVE Updates: Congress-National Conference Alliance Secures Majority With 49 Seats

The Congress-National Conference alliance has crossed the halfway mark and secured 49 seats out of 90, winning the Assembly elections and is set to form the government. Of these, 42 seats belong to the National Conference, 6 to the Indian National Congress and one to the Communist Party of India (Marxist) – CPI (M).
“Omar Abdullah Banega J&K Chief Minister,” National Conference’s Farooq Abdullah announced after a strong showing in Jammu and Kashmir polls.
The assembly elections for its 90 constituencies were held in three phases – September 18, September 25, and October 1 – after a gap of 10 years. This is also the first time Jammu and Kashmir had assembly elections since Article 370 was abolished in August 2019, which divided the former state into the Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.

The three-phase elections resulted in voter participation of 63.88%, as per the Election Commission of India.
The counting of votes began today at 8 am, with heavy security arrangements in place.

J&K Election Results 2024: Candidates Who Have Won Their Seats
BJP’s Vikram Randhawa won by 11,251 votes from the Bahu constituency in Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections 2024. He was standing against Congress’s Taranjit Singh Tony. Congress-National Conference alliance have won 46 seats out of 90, crossing the halfway mark, securing a majority in the Assembly elections being held after 10 years. National Conference leader Omar Abdullah is set to become the next Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir.
National Conference leader Omar Abdullah, who won from Budgam, has won the Ganderbal assembly seat as well. Mr Abdullah was contesting from two seats in the elections. Farooq Abdullah, the chief of National Conference, said, “Omar Abdullah banega chief minister.”
The Jammu and National Conference has won 39 out of 90 seats in the elections and is leading on three seats. Meanwhile, their alliance partner, Congress, has won six seats. The majority mark in the 90-seat Jammu and Kashmir Assembly is 46. The BJP has emerged as the second largest party in the Union Territory, wining 27 seats and leading on two seats.
Elections are being held in Jammu and Kashmir after 10 years and the first time since the removal of Article 370 in 2019.
“I will appeal to the Centre to stop experimenting. I think they should give statehood and let the people of this region live in peace,” Sajad Gani Lone, People Conference president and candidate from Handwara said.

Darshan Kumar, BJP candidate from Basholi has won the seat by over 16,000 votes, defeating Congress’s Ch. Lal Singh. He thanked the people of Basholi for voting for him and voting for change.

National Conference has secured 20 seats and is leading on another 21 seats. Congress, NC’s ally has won 3 seats, and People’s Democratic Party has secured 2. BJP, the other leading party, has won 15 seats and is leading on 14 seats.

J&K People Conference president Sajad Gani Lone is now leading from the Handwara constituency by a margin of 1,175 votes after six rounds of counting. He, however, is trailing by nearly 13,000 votes in Kupwara, the second assembly seat from where he contested the 2024 Jammu and Kashmir elections.

Iltija Mehbooba Mufti, Mehbooba Mufti’s daughter, is leading from Srigufwara – Bijbehara constituency. The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) – formed by Mehbooba Mufti’s father and former Chief Minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed — has been winning from this seat since 1996. This time, the third generation of the Mufti family – Mufti’s grand-daughter Iltija Mufti – is making her electoral debut from this constituency after her mother, Mehbooba Mufti declined to contest the election.
