Jammu: Armed terrorist tries to cross LoC from Pakistan in J&K, killed | India News – Times of India

SRINAGAR/JAMMU: Security forces killed a heavily armed terrorist when he was attempting to cross the Line of Control from the Pakistan side in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Sunday, while a gunfight with terrorists hiding in the woods near a village in Rajouri district of Jammu division continued for the second day.

“Army & Kupwara police in a joint #operation foiled an #infilitration bid by neutralising a #terrorist on #LoC in Amrohi area of #Tangdhar Sector. Incriminating materials, arms & ammunition recovered. Search operation in progress. Further details shall follow,” J&K police posted on social media. However, the identity of the slain terrorist and his group affiliation remains unknown.
A search-and-destroy operation continued in the mountainside forest near Gunda village of Khawas in Rajouri district, where two to three comrades of a terrorist killed on Saturday were suspected to be holed up. Jammu ADGP Mukesh Singh and GoC Romeo Force, Mohit Trivedi, said the joint operation was launched based on intelligence input.

Although the identity of the terrorist killed in Rajouri is yet to be ascertained, the belongings found on the site have “Pakistani markings”, suggesting his affiliation with the neighbouring country. The items included an AK-series rifle, two pistols, ammunition, medicines, eatables, and cash. The security forces also found a bag, containing raincoats, tarpaulin, and other items, indicating their preparation for “forest survival” in the wet season.
Reinforcements of Rashtriya Rifles were mobilised to secure all escape routes in the challenging terrain. The security forces successfully thwarted repeated attempts by the terrorists to break the cordon through controlled fire throughout the night, military PRO Lt Col Sunnel Bartwal said. Police have advised locals to stay 2km away from the site.
The Jammu ADGP said two to three groups of terrorists are active in Poonch and Rajouri of Jammu division.
