IRE vs IND: Arshdeep Singh disappointed me a little, says Aakash Chopra after India win 1st T20I

Former India batter Aakash Chopra has said that he was disappointed with Arshdeep Singh’s performance against Ireland. India beat Ireland by two runs (DLS) to take a 1-0 lead in the first T20I of the three-match series.

Speaking on his Youtube channel, Chopra said Arshdeep disappointed him a little, insisting that he thought that the Indian pacer would wreck havoc in Dublin. Arshdeep picked the wicket of Curtis Campher, while giving away 35 runs in four overs.

“Arshdeep got only one wicket. Personally, Arshdeep disappointed me a little. I felt he would wreak havoc on this pitch, but that did not happen and he got hit in the end as well. I am talking in the context. Arshdeep conceded 35 runs in four overs, so you shouldn’t say he got hit too much,” said Chopra.

He went on to shower praise on spinner Rvai Bishnoi, saying he will have a long career in T20s, insisting that he is a quality bowler and a wicket-taker. Bishnoi picked two wickets against Ireland, giving away 23 runs in four overs.

“I like Ravi Bishnoi a lot. He bowls within the three stumps. He is playing in Ireland, the Irish won’t play spin that well, and as soon as you play him across the line, he hits the ball on the pads or the stumps. He showed that by doing it not once but twice. He is a quality bowler, a wicket-taker, and I feel he will have a long career in T20s. If he is used well, he is an asset, without a shadow of doubt,” Chopra added.

While the batters did just enough to be ahead of the DLS par score, it was the bowling attack, led by captain Jasprit Bumrah, that shone. Bumrah excelled on his return to competitive cricket for the first time since September 2022, picking up two wickets and bowling 16 dot balls in his four-over spell.
