Himachal Pradesh Floods: 60 deaths, losses worth Rs 10,000 crore due to landslides and heavy rains | Shimla News – Times of India



SHIMLA: The death toll in Himachal Pradesh climbed to 60 on Wednesday due to landslides and flooding. Several individuals remain trapped under debris as the state continues to experience cloudbursts and intense rainfall. Mandi and Shimla districts have recorded the highest number of fatalities.
The state has been grappling with torrential rains since Sunday, leading to widespread devastation, particularly in areas like Summer Hill, Krishna Nagar, and Fagli in Shimla, where landslides have occurred.
Over 170 cloudbursts and landslides in Himachal
This monsoon season has witnessed a total of 170 cloudbursts and landslides across Himachal Pradesh, causing extensive damage to nearly 9,600 houses. Among the worst affected districts are Solan, Shimla, Mandi, Hamirpur, and Kangra. Flash floods resulting from the release of water from Pong dam have left more than 500 people stranded in Mandi and Kangra. In Mandi district, reports have emerged of five houses collapsing in the Baldwara area.
Landslide in Shimla’s Summer Hill area: Death toll rises to 13
At least 13 bodies have been recovered from the site of a landslide in Shimla’s Summer Hill area. The region experienced a massive landslide following heavy rains, which were preceded by a cloudburst. A Shiv temple in Summer Hill was also swept away by the landslide.
CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu conducts aerial survey
Himachal Pradesh chief minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu conducted an aerial survey of Fatehpur and Indora in Kangra district to assess the extent of the calamity’s impact.
Losses amounting to Rs 10,000 crore in Himachal
The death toll from rain-related incidents in the state has now exceeded 60, and the chief minister has stated that the state has incurred losses of approximately Rs 10,000 crore. The CM mentioned, “It will take around 1 year for us to rebuild the state’s infrastructure.”
Several roads blocked across the state
  • NH 21 Mandi-Kullu Via Pandoh road is blocked at various points due to landslides.
  • Mandi-Kullu via Kataula road will remain open for LMV until 03:00 PM, after which it will be closed for restoration work.
  • Sundernagar-Chail Chowk-Gohar-Kullu road is open only up to Pandoh for LMV.
  • Pandoh to Aut is blocked at Kainchi Mor (near Pandoh Dam) due to a significant landslide.
  • NH 21 Mandi-Sundernagar-Slapper and the four-lane route via Dehar are open.
  • Mandi to Karsog via Rohanda is blocked due to a landslide.
  • Karsog to Luhri road is blocked at Kotlu/Shilh.
  • Karsog to Shimla Road is open.
  • Mandi to Dharampur is blocked at Saroli, and Dharampur to Sandhol road is blocked at Sarari and Sakloh due to a landslide.
  • Mandi to Sarkaghat is blocked at Durgapur, and the road from Sarkaghat to Dharampur via Paplog is open.
  • NH 154 Mandi-Padhar road is blocked at Megal, Urla, Kotrupti due to a landslide.
  • Nerchowk-Kalkhar, Rewalsar road is blocked at various places due to landslides.
  • Mandi to Janjehli road is blocked at various points due to landslides.
  • Janjehli-Karsog via Raigarh is blocked due to a landslide, and the road from Janjehli to Chhatri is blocked at Magru Gala.
