The actual chargesheet is about 200 pages. With relevant documents attached, the chargesheet runs into about 3,000 pages.
ED sources said that sufficient evidence has been recorded in the chargesheet against Senthil Balaji about the money trail in the cash-for-job scam. The ED said it would move the court to start trial in the case.
Sources in the ED confirmed that the entire chargesheet is about Senthil Balaji. The names of his co-accused, including his brother R V Ashok Kumar, have not been mentioned in the chargesheet.
The Enforcement Directorate did not file any petition seeking further custody of Senthil Balaji as anticipated. He was remanded in judicial custody till August 25. He was handed over to Puzhal Central Prison officials around 3.40pm. Prison authorities took him to the prison hospital where he had already been stationed.
“The investigation with Senthil Balaji is complete, and there is no need to take him in custody again,” said ED sources.
ED’s next target is to secure Senthil Balaji’s brother Ashok Kumar and process is on to issue a public notice asking for a tip-off of his whereabouts. The ED has served several notices against Ashok Kumar, but he did not appear before ED for interrogation. “If he is secured, based on the outcome of the investigation, a separate supplementary chargesheet will be filed,” said a source.
