What Is Bhakarwadi?

Bhakarwadi are small fried snacks shaped like a pinwheel or round spiral. They are especially popular in Maharashtra and Gujarat. But readymade versions are also commonly available in other parts of the country. Bhakarwadi is made by stuffing a sweet and spicy mixture of coconut, poppy seeds, sesame, spices and masalas inside a chapati-like dough. What Is Bhakarwadi Chaat?

Bhakarwadi chaat is made by combining bhakarwadi with chopped veggies, sev and masalas. Some versions add chutneys and/or curds. It is best to use mini bhakarwadis for this chaat. If you only have relatively bigger bhakarwadis, you can choose to lightly crush them. This will make it easier to mix them with the other ingredients and also properly eat the chaat itself. To start preparing the chaat, combine the bhakarwadis with chopped vegetables like onion, tomato, cucumber and others. Add spice masalas and mix well. Pour in some lemon juice as well as honey. This will help balance out the many flavours of the chaat.

Next, mix in some kurmura (murmura) and sev for extra crunch and crispiness. Can you already imagine the different textures coming together? Doesn’t it sound irresistible? Finally, add some chopped coriander leaves to bring some freshness to the chaat. Mix all these ingredients thoroughly. Don’t forget to taste and see if you need to add more salt, spice or honey.
