Bihar news: Jamui Sadar Hospital uses bottle instead of uro bag, patient dies | Patna News – Times of India

PATNA: A seriously sick unidentified patient died in the Jamui Sadar Hospital on Wednesday allegedly due to negligence as an empty cold drink bottle could be seen attached with his catheter, instead of a Uro bag.

“The patient’s condition was very serious when brought to the hospital and he died today. His body has been sent for postmortem,” Jamui civil surgeon Dr KM Pratap told TOI over phone on Wednesday. Denying the charge that the patient died due to “gross negligence”, Dr Pratap said he had served a show-cause notice to the health official concerned for attaching empty cold drink bottle with the catheter instead of a Uro bag.
He claimed Uro bag was not available at the Sadar hospital when the patient was admitted by the railway police for treatment.

“The Uro bag was arranged within 15-20 minutes of the patient’s admission at the hospital, but in the meanwhile someone took his photograph with the empty cold drink bottle and made it viral on social media,” the civil surgeon said. Hospital authorities said the patient was brought in an unconscious state on Monday evening by the Jhajha railway police. After examination, the doctors asked the hospital staff to arrange an Uro bag and administer insulin injection along with a gas pipe for resuscitation. Since Uro bag was not available at that time, the patient was fitted with empty Sprite bottle, reports said.
Media reports alleged that such “idea” by the hospital could have taken the life of the patient who could not be identified.
