Another iPhone snatching: Woman on way home hurt | Delhi News – Times of India
In her complaint, Samreen, who lives with her family in Burari and works at a photo studio in Noida, said she was returning home from her office on a scooter around 9pm on August 12. When she reached Burari Chowk on Outer Ring Road, she received a phone call. Samreen stopped her scooter on the side of the road, took out her phone and started talking.
Snatchers have become increasingly brazen and violent creating a sense of dread, especially among women. Often their victims are seriously injured, sometimes they even die. Law enforcement authorities should come out with a plan to stop them. It is time such criminals are dealt with firmly and punished suitably.
At this point, a person allegedly approached her from behind, wrapped her neck in a towel and pulled her. Samreen fell to the ground along with her scooter, injuring her head and legs. The man then allegedly snatched her phone and started running. Soon, a mobile police van patrolling the area arrived at the spot and Samreen told the cops about the incident.
“The man was caught after a chase by policemen. The victim’s mobile phone was recovered from his possession,” police said. Samreen was taken by the cops to a nearby hospital for treatment. The woman on Tuesday said she was still finding it difficult to walk.
Police said the accused, identified as Rahul Mishra (23), lived in Burari’s Sant Nagar. A case under IPC sections 392 (punishment for robbery), 394 (voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery) and 411 (dishonestly receiving stolen property) has been registered against him at Wazirabad police station. He was involved in a case in Burari area earlier too, said police.
Cops are also probing whether two associates of the accused were present at the spot when the incident took place and said they were scanning CCTV cameras in the area.
