What are hives?
Hives are itchy red bumps on the surface of the skin that usually develops due to an allergic reaction to any food or medicine. Also known as urticaria, they are characterized by pink or flesh-colored bumps. They sting and hurt sometimes.
There are several reasons why hives occur. They can either be due to something one ingested or due to stress, like in the case of Adah. Sometimes wearing tight clothes, doing heavy exercises, prolonged illnesses and infections can also trigger hives on the skin. Some people develop hives due to excessive exposure to cold or hot temperatures.

How to know if it is a hive or not?
Hive may look like a normal rash in the beginning. But there is a typical characteristic of hives which is the formation of welts, the red ring, or round-shaped bumps on the skin. They appear in clusters or batches and grow in size, shape, and spread all over the body. These bumps turn white pressed and can occur in several parts of the body.
What to do when you develop hives?
Immediately after you notice the growth on your skin, visit a doctor. Meanwhile, you should not irritate the area by scratching and rubbing it, avoid using hot water on that area as it might cause it to spread more. Take a cool water bath preferably with oatmeal or baking soda.
It is very important to remove the trigger factors of hives in your body. Know the cause, after a thorough diagnosis from the doctor and avoid exposure to the trigger factors. The key to preventing hives lies in staying away from the factors that cause it.
