Kondai village accounts for 8 of 14 deaths in Mulugu
Eight out of 14 deaths due to extreme rainfall in Telangana’s Mulugu district were reported from village Kondai, which was completely inundated on Thursday. The victims were washed away in the flooded Jampanna Vagu stream and their bodies were recovered on Friday.
It didn’t rain much on Friday, but sources in the government told TOI that the toll could rise as flood water recedes and more bodies are found. Those who survived in Kondai were lucky to find an elevated spot for taking refuge. IAF choppers dispatched to the village dropped emergency supplies for them. Later, NDRF teams shifted them to rehabilitation centres set up in the Eturnagaram mandal headquarters.
Other villages in Mulugu that were badly affected included Malyala and Dodla. Tribal welfare ministerSathyavathi Rathod advised people in the affected villages not to enter their houses if the waters had notreceded.
